BREAKING: Who are the Big Money Donors Funding the Iowa NIL Swarm Collective?
Story by
TLDR: we requested and received the official Iowa NIL group’s (the Swarm Collective, a 501c3 charitable and federal tax-exempt organization) 2022 and 2023 tax returns. Which, whether intentionally or not, also included the Swarm Collective’s list of large-dollar donors. They didn’t have to provide that to us, but they did. So let’s take a look!
(We reached out to the Swarm Collective for comment. They declined to respond.)

Here’s the 2022 excess contributions page, which basically identifies any donor who donated over 2% of the yearly total income of the Swarm Collective.

BREAKING: Who are the Big Money Donors Funding the Iowa NIL Swarm Collective?
(** partial list from Article)
- Bradley Heinrichs is the director of the Swarm Collective and a former Hawkeyes varsity golfer. Good on him for not taking a salary and donating to the group, I guess.
- William Moon’s an Iowa grad and a major booster for the Hawkeyes, having donated upwards of $10 million to Iowa’s athletics department in 2021. He also owns the World’s Largest Truck Stop on I-80. Cool.
- Bruce Rastetter owns the Summit Agricultural Group, so we’ll consider these together. Rastetter is considered a major kingmaker in Iowa politics and has donated millions to various Republican political campaigns. He’s endorsed Trump in all of his presidential runs and served as an unofficial agriculture policy guru. He also actively supported Trump’s trade war with China in 2018, which resulted in massive losses and hardship for farmers. He encouraged hog farmers that they “just need to take a deep breath for a moment” and that it’ll “all work out fine.” Good thing Iowa received $1.7 billion in tariff assistance subsidies from the Departemtn of Agriculture between September 2018 and November 2019 alone! Oh, and his company is benefiting from eminent domain to build a massive CO2 pipeline across the Midwest as a fig leaf over the immensely lucrative ethanol industry.
