DES MOINES, Iowa —

Former state representative Jon Dunwell attended his first Iowa Utilities Commission meeting Thursday after being appointed by Gov. Kim Reynolds to fill a vacancy on the three-member commission.

Landowners opposed to Summit Carbon’s pipeline plans are criticizing Dunwell’s appointment, pointing to his voting record in the legislature.

“We have been fighting for five years to get some legislation through. He has voted both directions on some of the bills. Most recently, he voted no on 2104, which is a very plain bill about eliminating eminent domain for carbon oxide pipelines,” said Floyd County landowner Kathy Carter.

Dunwell spoke briefly at the meeting but did not comment on the pipeline proposal. (watch news report here)
