Comment from Corey Cerwinske, Bremer County Supervisor

“For Senator Sweeney to justify the destruction of prime agricultural lands and allowing Private landowner rights to be steamrolled in the name of “Iowa being Open for Business” is shameful and borderline fascist.  With an extremely large majority of Iowans standing firmly against the use of eminent domain condemnation specifically for a private for-profit entity to construct and operate a CO2 pipeline for the primary purpose to collect Federal Tax credits for a fictitious and disproven concept, Annette is desperately trying to justify State Government maliciously carving out and protecting the ability for her largest campaign donor to circumvent landowners Constitutional Rights to their health, personal safety, and land rights.

Every County Government that steps up to protect their citizens’ rights are quickly steamrolled by a well-funded and well-connected Summit Carbon Solutions to intimidate any other officials from even considering similar actions.  There are several pieces of legislation that would provide a backstop for local governments to exercise these codified protections of landowner rights, but Annette and her colleagues in the Iowa Senate are running cover to subvert these bills.  Shameful!”

Comments from some folks on Facebook:

Joan Gaul  – Great article, Corey! Thank you for helping us pipeline-affected landowners. I have been in the fight for 4 years. We have to keep spreading the TRUTH about these dangerous CO2 pipelines that only profit a private company while us landowners have all of the worries and problems. Most of all, these pipelines do not help the environment and do not help the ethanol plants. They are scams to reap 45Q tax credits. They use our water supplies, such as acquifers, so that they will become dangerously low. These pipeline easements are forever, we still have to pay property taxes on them, and they could be sold to anyone from any country in the future. As landowners, we cannot obtain liability insurance in the event that damage occurs on the easements. The years of wondering what might happen has caused immense stress among us pipeline-affected landowners, leading to physical and emotional ailments. Everyone, please help us in any way that you can to stop these pipelines!

Cheryl Hogberg – Great article – spread it wide & far! The people have the right to know!
Austin Palmquist – Very well put.
Linda Keezer – The Climate Change Agenda is not capitalism. It is corporatism. see:  https://i53.photobucket.com/…/The-True-Political..

Kathy Carter –  Well said, Corey Cerwinske. Sweeney very obviously is 1) bowing to the Rastetter government and 2) drinking the Summit koolaid about saving ethanol and SAF.

Karl C. Stieglitz – Kathy Carter Ethanol should live or die on its own two feet without government subsidy. The only reason they want the CO2 pipeline is to keep the money flowing to the ethanol industry. The current subsidies that helped build all of the “bio-fuel plants (ethanol and bio-diesel) are about to sunset and the governor and the special interests (all the way to Washington with Ernst and Grassley want to keep the money flowing to keep the plants operational. Without subsidies, much of that industry would probably die. 🤬

Kathy Carter – Karl C. Stieglitz This is exactly what we need people to come to the capitol and tell the stubborn legislators. They are subjected to the Summit PR and can’t see the truth. They need to hear it FROM CORN GROWERS, FROM PEOPLE WHO WORK IN THE ETHANOL INDUSTRY.
